Dermalogica Biolumin-c Serum- Review

What is it: A skin brightening Vitamin C serum that stimulates the skin’s natural defense system to brighten, firm and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Best for: Sensitive skin, dullness and fine lines. Perfect for skin that needs a pick me up- especially at the end of the winter months when skin is dry and dull.

How it works: The advanced bio-technology and an ultra-stable Vitamin C complex work together to enhance the delivery of Vitamin C to the skin to fight oxidative stress and the appearance of skin aging. Optimised delivery of Vitamin C combined with peptide and AHA (Lactic Acid)  to renew, brighten and firm the skin.

Key Ingredients:

Vitamin C Complex– A powerful anti-oxidant for brighter, firmer and more radiant skin

Lactic Acid-Stimulates cell turnover for smoother, brighter and hydrated skin

Sophora Japonica Flower Extract- Calms and combats oxidative stress

Chia Seed Oil-Hydrates and prevents free radical damage

How to use Biolumin- C serum:

  1. Dispense a full dropper of the serum into the fingertips
  2. Gently smooth over cleansed face and neck
  3. Use morning and night before moisturiser
  4. If you use a Japanese style lotion, apply serum between lotion and moisturiser cream/ emulsion

What I thought:Whenever I speak with skincare professionals and Dermatologists, Vitamin C is one of the most consistently recommended active ingredients for a significant improvement in the condition of pigmented, sun damaged and aging skin. So, I was really interested in trying this new Dermalogica serum, when the girls from Nua kindly sent it to me.

I have been using the Biolumin-c serum consistently for the past month, and I have to say I am really impressed with the improved smoothness, hydration and brightness of my skin.

Using a Vitamin C serum is not new to me, however the Dermalogica Biolumin-c serum is not your run of the mill Vitamin- C serum, it also boasts the gentle, but effective AHA- lactic acid to improve the cell turnover and hydration. I am a huge fan of daily use of AHA’s to gently exfoliate and prepare the skin to absorb other ingredients (like Vitamin C) more effectively. Without daily exfoliation you really can’t expect the best results from your serums and lotions, they will just sit on the top layer of skin and fails to penetrate to the deeper skin layers where they are need to get to work.

Overall, my dry/ sensitive skin Biolumin-c has definitely improved hydration, gently exfoliated my skin leaving it feeling smooth and reducing the appearance of any fine lines. In terms of brightness, I am completely addicted to the healthy glow that this serum has added to my complexion. This morning as I tipped the bottle of Biolumin-c to fill the dropper, I realised I have already almost reached the end of the bottle ( a feat in itself given how many products I try, often they are left half empty) I realised how much I have enjoyed using this serum, it has slipped effortlessly into my skincare routine and delivered impressive results.

It is a little pricey, but a quality serum with potent active ingredients is definitely something you should be spending more on and then use a more budget friendly cleanser.

Tips: Make sure you wear SPF 50+ every day while using Vitamin C serum, as the active ingredient make skin more susceptible to sunburn and sun damage.
