What is Baby Foot?

Baby Foot is an extremely popular Japanese foot exfoliant product designed for easy use at home and delivers some serious skin shed over the next 7-10 days.  The Baby Foot deep exfoliating gel comes conveniently packaged in single use booties that you place on your feet, wait and rinse after 30-60 mins (depending on the type you purchase).

If you are game, Google “Baby Foot”.

But be prepared for some rather confronting before, during and after photos that have helped earn Baby Foot the title of the most grossest DIY beauty treatment.

But there is no denying its effectiveness in delivering:

a) A very satisfying shed of dead skin build up on the feet

b) Revealing (the much more appealing) soft, smooth, sandal-worthy skin that lies underneath.

Fast gaining cult following among Asian beauty aficionados around the world, there have even been reviews of Baby Foot on popular global beauty and lifestyle blog, Refinery 29.

Although Baby Foot is quite easy to use, for best results you do have to follow the correct steps, and if you buy Baby Foot in Japan the detailed instructions are written in Japanese.

So, follow the steps below and you will be dying to show off your feet….in about 10 days.

I have heard of a few people who were somewhat underwhelmed by the peeling action they achieved with Baby Foot, but many of them skipped the all important soaking steps, so make sure to take note below!

Inside the pack

How to use Baby Foot

  1. Patch test at least 2 days before you plan to use Baby Foot for the first time. Inside the Baby Foot pack there is a small foil sachet of Baby Foot gel, apply this to the skin on the top of your foot. Leave for 60 minutes and then rinse off. If there is any redness or irritation it’s best to skip applying Baby Foot.
  2. If there was no irritation and you are ready to Baby Foot. Start by cutting along the dotted line to open the foot pack. Be careful not to spill the gel!
  3. Carefully place each of your feet inside a pack and gently fold the excess packaging over the top of the foot and around the ankle to achieve a snug fit against the skin. Secure the foot packaging in place with the provided Baby Foot sticker tabs.
  4. For an extra snug fit (and to make walking around a little easier) put a pair of socks over the packaging.
  5. Relax and leave you feet to absorb the Baby Foot gel for the specified time (either 30 or 60 minutes). Note: be careful to adhere to specified application time and don’t be tempted to leave Baby Foot on for extra time for “better results” it can cause redness, irritation and swelling.
  6. When the time is up remove the packs and thoroughly rinse all of the gel off your feet with warm soapy water.
  7. In the following days be sure to soak your feet daily in water, as water activates the peeling process.
  8. The time at which the dead skin will begin to peel varies from person to person, but generally you can expect to see some action between day 2-5  (although Baby Foot officially says 2-10).
  9. Results really do vary from person to person but the skin shed will generally last 1-2 weeks.

Extra Baby Foot tips!

To ensure sure you get a great result (and super smooth feet)

  • Patch test. I know products always say to patch test, and to be honest I rarely do, but this is definitely one that requires a patch test before you start.
  • Don’t skip the foot soak before you apply the Baby Foot packs. I missed this step the first few times I applied Baby Foot and it really does make a difference!
  • Plan ahead. Your feet will shed ALOT of skin. This is kind of fascinating for you, but others will not want to share in your experience. Baby Foot is best applied in winter or spring before you will be wearing sandals or any type of open footwear.
  • Wear socks around the house. Contain the shed by wearing socks around the house. No further explanation needed. It also stops husband, children and friends from freaking out over your feet…
  • Soak, soak, soak. Make sure you give your feet an extra long daily soak to speed up the peeling process. Perfect excuse to follow the Japanese ritual of daily baths.

    1. Hi! Thanks for your comment. I soak for about 10 mins both prior to applying Baby Foot and each day after, and that seems to work for me.

  1. I love the toughtfulness of the patch test sachet! I’ve tried a Korean version that did not have one. Luckily I had no trouble.
