Obagi Peeling V10 Essence is a wipe-on chemical exfoliant that is designed to be used twice daily, just after cleansing. This essence contains five types of acid to effectively clear away the dry dead skin cells leaving the skin softer, clearer and brighter, as well as preparing the skin for improved absorption of skincare products, such as lotions and serums.

• Lactic acid
• Phytic acid
• Glycolic acid
• Gluconic acid
• Citric acid

 

What did I think?

I have been thinking about trying this product for a while, as a good gentle exfoliant has definitely eluded me here in Japan. Acid exfoliants are not as popular in Japan as they are in Australia, and most of the exfoliants in the drug store and scrubs or peeling gels which are not suitable for regular use on my sensitive skin type.

There is only one size of this product available for sale in the drugstore, and at 180ml it is quite sizeable and definitely on the higher end of the price range. However, after my recent good experience with the Obagi Vitamin C serum, I felt confident and excited to try the V10 Peeling Essence.

On my first application I was cautious and only applied 2 pumps to the cotton square. The essence with quite thick and has a pleasant orange scent. I applied the essence all over my face, concentrating on my nose and chin where I tend to have a lot of congestion. There was no stinging or tingling, even on my cheek area which is prone to sensitivity, so I was really pleased. When I applied my serum and cream, I could already feel that the build of skin that usually causes roughness had disappeared. Over the next few days I applied 2-3 pumps of essence to my skin once a day (even though they say to use it twice a day), as my skin is sensitive and prone to sensitivity. But even with once a day use I can see a difference in the texture and appearance of my skin. My skin feels soft and plump, and looks brighter. For now, I feel like once a day application is sufficient for my skin type.

My only dislike with this product is how big the bottle is, as the large size is not easy to travel with, but this can be easily fixed by dispensing some of the essence into a travel container from Muji.

 

 How to use Obagi Peeling V10 Essence.

1. Start with a freshly cleaned face.
2. Dispense 2-3 pumps of essence on to a cotton square.
3. Wipe the cotton gently over the face in an outward motion across the cheeks, and forehead.
4. Followed then with the  nose and chin, as these areas are more prone to blackheads and blocked pores use  a light circular motion when gently wiping the essence over these areas.
5. Take care to avoid the sensitive eye and lip areas.
6. Follow with lotion/ serum/ cream.
7. Use daily, at both morning and night depending on your skin needs.
